Aaaand we're back...served with a side of Beignets!

Hi guys!

So yes, it's been another long while. Life happens when we least expect it, so in light of recent events I just had to hit the pause button for a bit. I wasn't even sure if I would start savoring and snapping again but I know it's what my sister would have wanted, after all she loved taking pictures too. And she always patiently waited for me to take snap before we savored any meal so I owe her this much.

This past April, my sister Mariecon (Mary), sadly passed away after a long battle with breast cancer. While she battled BC these last few years, I never really thought that she would ever leave this soon. She seemed to be doing so well when I last saw her for my wedding last December.

For me, her passing felt very sudden, the grief on some days paralyzing. In her final weeks, I had so much to say, to ask. We talked about all the places she wished she had visited...so in the next months, years (it was a long list), I will be going to these places and writing about them here. Lucky me, lucky you, thank you Mariecon :)

In the meantime here's a photo of us in Bermuda, a month before she was diagnosed 5 years ago. I will be there soon to spread some of her ashes, expect a post!

I remember they had the best desserts at The Reefs, where we stayed. The chef sent over such a beautiful assortment!

My sister had a sweet tooth. After her celebration of life service in Florida,  I stopped in New Orleans on my way back to the west coast. It was random but perfect.  My sister loved beignets though she was never able to experience how amazing they tasted in Nola. So I ate these for her. Twice in one night because I know that is what she would have done too. I even bought the mix to make back at home in SF, if it doesn't end up a disaster expect a post on that soon too :)

I'll write more on Nola later but  in the meantime here is some food for thought, from one of the last interviews I did with my sister, when I asked her what advice she would give me: "To carry on in life and not be afraid. That life is not about regret or being perfect, just try your best and put your best foot forward. You need to treat people with respect and treat people right, it's the only way you can progress in this world."

Thank you for reading. We have so much to catch up on: Philippines, Krabi, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Barcelona, Vancouver...we'll be back soon!

Bangkok Day 1: Chatuchak Market, Mango Sticky Rice & Massages

Savor and Snap Asia edition is on fire!!! Literally. So many times I've bit into a dish and it's so spicy leaving my tongue burning but my tummy wanting more! To the point where my nose is running but man it is SO worth it. I was in Bangkok for the first time a year ago but didn't have time to explore...this visit made up for all the moments I missed.

Verde Valley: Arizona Wine Country, who knew?!

Verde Valley: Arizona Wine Country, who knew?!

On a whim, I headed to AZ for a Sedona girls trip. Why on a whim you say? Well a one way ticket (SFO-PHX) only cost $19! I mean it's like the chinatown bus of the skies! And honestly the Frontier flight was totally fine...I was so excited about Frontier that on the way back I raised my hand when the flight attendant asked who was interested in the Frontier airlines credit card application...yes please!

Once in Phoenix, my friend Melyssa met me for din din, wine and catch-up. The next morning we drove 2 hours to Sedona...red rocks, yummy eats and WINE! AZ wine country?! I was surprised myself but one of my new years resolutions is to discover as much wine country as possible and right outside Sedona is Verde Valley or as Melyssa likes to call it #DirtyVerde.
