Tonight I had plans to catch up with one of my favorites, my friend Chieu. Together with a bottle of Complicated Pinot Noir, we headed straight to neighborhood favorite & BYOB, Queens Comfort. On weekends the brunch line is out the door, for good reason. My tip, go for dinner, it's just as delicious and tonight we were seated right away!
Since its FREEZING out we needed to heat things up. We started with Atomic Fire Balls, deep fried mac n cheese drizzled with Sriracha and a side of Ranch. Anyone who knows me, knows I love me a side of ranch (especially with fries). I always ask for it at restaurants, even the nicer ones. Classy, I know. Chieu loved these! I mean Sriracha + Ranch, what's not to love? Then we ordered 2 sandwiches to split : "The King Creole" ~ Cornflake crusted tilapia sammich, green goddess slaw, chipotle mayo & "Down by Law" ~ roasted chicken sammich w/ bacon jam, cheddar, avocado, bibb lettuce, chipotle mayo. The winner? The fish sammich. Chieu described it as very fresh and light (even though it was fried)...it just melted in your mouth. We decided to eat the chicken sammich without the top bun...it was a bit dry..we might have been better off eating it with the bun so that the jam & mayo could soak into the bread. Noted for next time.
Even though there was barely any room left in our bellies, we pushed forward and let me tell you...the Butterscotch Bread Pudding HIT THE SPOT! Chieu brought up a solid point, the problem with butterscotch desserts is they often taste too sweet and manufactured but this was just right, it was perfectly sweet with a hint of soft maple syrup and it tasted homemade. We couldn't finish the dessert so now that's breakfast. I'm so excited to wake up to these leftovers that I'm off to bed. Until the next meal! :) Sweet Dreams.
