I've got the winter blues. We're expecting the worst storm ever and while I should be in sunny LA, I am stuck at home in soon to be snowpocalypse NYC. In my attempt to make the most of it, I went in search of something to make me smile.
In the calm before the storm, I had spent most of the weekend inside my apartment and really needed to get over my cabin fever. I wanted something sweet but I didn't want to walk that far. So I traveled all of one block to Noisette Pastries in Astoria. I've lived on Steinway street for 5 years and I've always driven or walked by but never ventured inside..it was finally time!
First, I don't know why I waited so long! Second, as soon as I walked in the rows of colorful cakes, eclairs, fruit tarts, creme brulee and mousse caught my eye and yup...made me smile! Mission accomplished. So many choices, how could I go with just 1?! And so I went with 5! :) Their golden yellow coconut Passion Fruit layered cake was perfectly sweet with bits of coconut pulp. The Opera had flavors of chocolate and hazelnut and my only regret was that I bought the baby size...I wish I had just owned it and went with the momma size as this was gone in a single bite just like the petite Strawberry Kiwi Tart. My only complaint about the Strawberry Custard Tart is that there wasn't more custard. There sure was a lot of strawberry so I suppose I could feel less guilty. I haven't had the Chocolate Mousse yet...because I can only eat so much in one sitting. Surprising, yes...but even I have limits!
I love discovering new places (especially ones within a block radius of my apt) and this one definitely hit the sweet spot!
