Whenever I head to Brooklyn, I always get excited about savor & snap opportunities! I had a shoot for work in Clinton Hill/Bed-Stuy and after a helicopter hovered overhead interrupting my interview…the most important question of the day followed: Where do I get dinner in these parts? There was no hesitation: Speedy Romeo!
And so we tackled the menu like champs. My contributors for this post are my colleagues Jen T Hong (native NY’er) & Krystle Champagne (recent DC transplant):
Dish 1- Kale Salad w/ Goat Cheese Vin, Seasonal Fruit, Croutons, Walnuts
JTH: A perfect blend of savory and sweet, the seasonal fruit (peaches) and nuts complimented the sharp taste of kale ( I don’t like kale) but I still ate the entire thing!
KC: Fresh take on kale with it being slightly grilled. It’s a nice summer treat with balanced flavors and I really liked that the croutons were soft, not overcooked. I also loved the zesty dressing! (afterwards KC & I discussed how we should make this at home!)
Dish 2 - Wood Oven Wings topped with scallions, celery & house made Ranch dressing ~ SR’s Wednesday night special ~
JTH : I’ve never tasted wings like this before...scallions, ranch, apple smoky flavor (No meat left on the bones!)
KC: You can taste that they're wood fired, they’ve got a sweet, smoky feel. They were finger lickin' good (said as she licked the sauce off her fingers)
Dish 3 - The KC Royale Pizza: Clams, Pancetta, Kale, Fontina, Bechamel, Lemon
I was enjoying the meal so much I forgot to take notes until we were almost done and fighting over who should eat the last piece…
KC: I can't eat anymore I'm going to explode. JTH: Ok…shut up guys…Im going for it!
Ok so maybe I didn’t actually take notes…but it was funny and that’s all I got about the pizza. No clam left behind!
Dish 4 – Olive Oil cake: Grilled Peaches, Blue Marble Pistachio Almondine Ice Cream
JTH: Delicious
KC: Refreshing (not too sweet or heavy...the perfect summer sweet) ok in one word I would describe this as “delightful”
Me: I think my belt is about to pop off. So much for that wedding diet, I'll start tmrw! Or the next tmrw.
